Audits: our budgets and our values
The Controller is an elected position so
that Californians have someone in public office who reports to
them about how the finances of the state and local governments
are being handled. One of the tools is the audit. Here are some
audits I would love to do:
Audit our
declining schools and audit whether increased prison spending is
keeping us safer, or not. Audit whether decreased spending per
student is helping, or hurting. Let's improve public safety,
and let's again take pride in our schools and colleges.
The Lottery was supposed to save
California's educational system; it didn't; what happened?
Why do are some folks getting extremely
wealthy, while many of our friends and family, especially young
people, seem to have fewer opportunities and less money?
Is there anything we can do, really, to
stop environmental destruction – to save the earth?
